RODCHENKO 2024
Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Canon EOS Rebel T3, February-March 2024 | Personal Project
This project reimagines the timeless style of Alexander Rodchenko through a modern lens. Rodchenko’s revolutionary designs have captivated me with their impactful visuals, and I sought to reinterpret his work in ways that resonate with contemporary themes and personal significance.
First, I applied his style to a conceptual iPhone ad, mirroring his Soviet aviation poster. This juxtaposition between communist advertising and a modern American brand brings a layer of irony, yet the design retains relevance, with geometric shapes echoing iPhone models of 2007 to today.
Next, I recreated Rodchenko's iconic Books! poster by inserting an edited photo of myself, layered with my personal reflections as text in the background. This transformation gave the piece a deeply introspective feel, using Rodchenko’s call for literacy as a platform for personal expression.
Finally, I reinterpreted ‘Pro eto. Ei i mne’ by replacing the original woman with the modern actor Giancarlo Esposito, whose intense gaze aligns with Rodchenko's bold storytelling. Together, these works explore Rodchenko's stylistic impact and how his legacy can be adapted to reflect today’s narratives and icons.
Through Rodchenko 2024, I explored the intersection of historical design and contemporary themes, drawing from Rodchenko’s impactful visuals to create pieces that resonate personally. Each reinterpretation pays homage to his style while adapting it to modern messages and familiar figures, blending irony, nostalgia, and introspection to make timeless designs relevant today.
