Legacy Designer Zines
Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, | October–November 2023 | Graphic Design III
For this project, I created a series of zines honoring three designers whose philosophies and work have profoundly shaped the design world. Researching these designers’ contributions was essential, as I sought to translate their styles into my own work.
The first designer, Massimo Vignelli, deeply influenced my approach to minimalism; his design for the NYC transit map resonated with me due to its simplicity and clarity. Vignelli’s use of modernist principles taught me the value of structure in everyday design.
Josef Müller-Brockmann was the second designer, known for his precise use of grids and the golden ratio. Intrigued by this mathematical approach, I incorporated these elements into my own layouts, finding that structure can be both a guide and a creative tool.
Finally, Jan Tschichold inspired me with his typography standards and impactful layouts in book design. His attention to typographic detail reinforced my understanding of how intentional type choices elevate any design’s style.
I aimed to capture the essence of each designer’s philosophy and approach, merging iconic design principles with my own evolving style. This project solidified my understanding of how historical design elements can inform contemporary work, offering timeless insights that continue to inspire.
